Last Minute Knit Cowl

As of when this post goes live, we are less than 2 weeks away from Christmas. There are many of us who are last minute makers and shoppers for that perfect Christmas gift. You may be wanting to make something handmade for a special loved one, but what to make, oh what to make. You’re going through Pinterest and Ravelry looking for that quick and easy gift to whip up really quick. Well, Yarn Punk teamed up with Clover USA again to bring you a last minute make. It is a perfect stash buster cowl that is quick and easy to whip up. Perfect for a beginner who knows or wants to know how to work in a round, knit, and purl. Because this used a super bulky weight yarn, this cowl works up extremely quick and can be done the night before a gift giving day.

Thank you Clover!

Clover USA Takumi 10mm interchangeable needles and 24″ interchangeable cord are really great tools to have especially starting out learning how to knit. The absolute best part about them is in their name, they’re interchangeable. You can use different length cords to the different needles for all sorts of projects. You can buy them separately and as time goes on with your knitting hobby, you are able to change them out without worrying about having a 10 mm needle with a 32″ cord when you need 10mm needles with a 16″ cord. With Clover’s interchangeable line, you can easily screw on and off the tools you need for the next project.

Materials

87 yards of Super Bulky Yarn – Sample shows 1 ball of Buttercream Cozy Yarn

Clover USA 10 mm Circular Needles

Clover USA 24″ interchangeable cord

Quick Locking Stitch Markers (used just to mark the beginning and end of a round)

Scissors

Darning Needle

Gauge

2 sts x 3 rows = approx 1″

Abbreviations

K – Knit

P – Purl

CO – Cast On

St/Sts – Stitch / Stitches

Pattern Notes

  • After you CO your sts, and you are beginning to join your round, I recommend to bring both your tail end and your live yarn into the first knitted stitch. This can help with a visual gap between your round. You may also CO an additional stitch to do the Invisible Join In The Round method
  • To push your knitting skills more, you can CO using a stretchy CO method instead of the Long Tail CO. You can also opt to Cast Off using a stretchy CO method. * Note this change of CO and Cast Off will increase the yardage that you need for the pattern. To try and use only 1 ball of the Buttercream Cozy, you can decrease you stitch count by 5 *

Pattern

CO 55 sts using Long Tail Cast On Method

Place Stitch Marker on right needle marking the start of the next round

Round1 to 3 – K 55 sts around

Round4 – P 55 sts around

Repeat Rounds 1-4 four times; totaling 5 purl ridges on your cowl

Round21 to 23 – Repeat rounds 1 to 3

Cast Off

Cut Yarn and Weave your ends
