With the holidays coming to a close, we are putting our hooks and needles to a rest…. Right? NOPE! Not over here! Our newest guest on the blog has the PERFECT cold weather make for you. It is basically a wearable blanket to keep you toasty warm. The worst part about the cold is where the slightest breeze hits you and just freezes you to your core. This Winter Nights Cowl will be sure to keep you nice and warm while looking your absolute best. It definitely is a conversation starter, and to be able to say you made it, will be your favorite part. Let us give a very big welcome to AnyutaDesigns!

Hello Anna!

I’m Anna and I live in Illinois with my husband and our two boys. I’m originally from Russia and I lived there my whole life but then I decided to travel at 23 years old, I visited the USA and fell in love with this country and people and here I am now! I have been crafting ever since I remember! I have never met my grandma’s but that’s where I get it from – they were very crafty and talented in any craft they worked on. My mom taught me to crochet and knit when I was 7 and I would make some little things like scarves here and there but my biggest obsession with crochet started a few years ago and now I just can’t stop! It is my biggest therapy, it helps me to go through the toughest times or just relaxes me when it’s most needed. It is my biggest passion now and I couldn’t be happier that I discovered this craft and joined the amazing fiber community – makers are just such wonderful people and am so glad I get to know more and more crafty people every day!

PIN ME FOR LATER

Winter Nights Cowl

This cowl is an example of when the yarn is the main inspiration for the pattern. These sparkly sequins remind me of White Siberian nights when the snow is reflecting the light of the moon shining from the night sky. The edging of this cowl imitates delicate icicles and wearing this item you will look nothing but a queen! I hope you enjoy this pattern as it is inspired by the place where I grew up – Siberia! It is very beautiful there in winter and I wanted to have a tiny piece that reminded me of that magical place!

Next we will join triangle edges to create a cowl. Join two triangle upper corners with a sl st. (Pic 12)

We will be working in a round bottom up to create the neck part of the cowl.

Ch 1, Sc in each st evenly ( work 1 st in each sc row, 2 sts in dc rows and 4 sts in tr rows). Work around till you have approximately 82 sts (it can be more than 82, or less than 82, depending on your yarn and tension). Join with a sl st. (Pic 13)

Row5-7: ch1, sc around, join with sl st (82). Finish off. (Pic 16)

Weave in all the ends, try to pull the needle slow as all the sequins keep getting caught when weaving the ends in, wiggling the needle a little and going slow helps. Steam the cowl or wash it according to the yarn directions.
