Australia Fire Awareness (Pattern Round-Up)

Starting this post off with a statement that may not be popular to some; Yarn Punks are not climate change deniers. With the new year here, a lot of news outlets have been shifting focus on some of the effects that climate change is having on our world, and in this post, we’re keeping our attention on what’s going on over in Australia.

If you haven’t seen the news, the bush fires over in the country have gotten out of hand because of the intense drought they have been facing. So many repercussions have come of this in the few months that these fires have been fuming – the air is toxic, homes are being burnt to a crisp, people have died, and a nearly 1 billion animals have been killed.

As a platform that has had some wonderful Yarn Punk’s on the blog, it would be a disservice to ignore what’s going on – and as fellow humans, Climate Change isn’t an issue that can just be ignored because it so far away.

How can I help?

For those of you that have been following closely what’s going on or just learned about it and are wondering what can you possibly do? We have what you’re looking for! Knot Bad has done a great post talking about more details about the events occurring along with what crafters can do to make a difference. Some of these things include:

  • Certain items can be made to help the animals that have been injured!
  • Donating money to services that are on the ground level to help combat the fires as well as services for what happens after the fires are gone.
  • Raising awareness about climate change and what’s going on can only help more!

To learn more details about all of this, head to Knot Bad’s Awareness post regarding all of this!

Over on social media even, so many wonderful makers have taken it upon themselves to raise awareness as well as donating money from the proceeds they are earning! It truly is amazing what people can do when they care and we are especially proud makers from the yarn punk community are contributing as well!

Right now, donating money is the most helpful you can be in this time epriod. However, if you don’t have the means like many (which is completely understandable for a lot of us!) But you CAN do something in our digital awareness; raising awareness through art!

Down below, you can find a round-up of some lovely free and paid patterns of animals found in Australia! With more than 8,000 koala deaths because of the fire, this animal is iconic and tugs at so many heartstrings. Let people know what’s happening to our yarn punks over in Australia and let’s convince our officials to make changes towards bettering our climate change crisis.
