Here on Yarn Punk, we absolutely love being able to show off the talent that the community has. One of the greatest feelings is being able to help artists grow in their own way. Our next guest on Yarn Punk, is one that our team member, [Sarah] has been encouraging to grow on her crochet journey. It is in a way, seeing off a little baby bird fly from its nest. With Easter just around the corner, we may look to our yarn stashes for the next project. Let us welcome Amber of Knotted Faux to Yarn Punk

How’s it going Knotted Faux

My name is Amber Donegan, and I have been crocheting for over a year. My friend Sarah, who is a team member on Yarn Punk, insisted that I learn to crochet, and, well, I haven’t stopped! Nonetheless, there were times I wanted to give up because there are so many amazing designers out there. I just didn’t think I could measure up. Above all, after much encouragement from Sarah, I finally found what I am good at – using Faux Fur! This came with a lot of trial and error, however I finally found my own unique way to stand out.

Find me on my Etsy where you can buy an ad free PDF version of this pattern and many more!

Notes:

  • Make your ears first – this will make it easier to connect the ears to the head. Instructions are included to help you with this.
  • When using faux fur, feel for your next stitch. You cannot rely on sight with this yarn.
  • Use the Yarn Under method when making the sheep’s body. This will reduce the hole size and keep your stuffing safe inside.
  • According to yarn instructions, both yarn types are safe to put into the washer. Leave out to dry – faux fur cannot go into the dryer.

Ears – Make 2 With Bernat Blanket Yarn

5.5 mm Hook

Ch 11

Row 1: Hdc into chain 10, dc, tc 4x, dc 2x, hdc 2x

Tie off and leave a 5 inch tail.

Head – Worked In The Round Using Bernat Blanket Yarn

5.5 mm Hook

Make a magic circle or ch 2

Row1: Sc 8x into your magic circle or into ch 1 (8)

Row2: Inca (16)

Row3: *sc, inc* around (24)

Row4: *sc 2x, inc* around (32)

Rows5-10: Sca (32)

Row11: *sc 2x, dec* around (24)

Row12: Sca (24) – turn your work inside out to have more
defined stitches

Row13: *sc, dec* around (16) – Start stuffing and attach ears

Attach ears at an angle, with the bottom of the ear two rows closer to the back of the head. Simply insert your hook into the hole in the head and pull both end strings into the head. Tie these strings together twice. You can weave an end string along the ear to give it more strength instead of just knotting both strands together.

Row14: Deca (8)

Row15: Cut a long tail, and weave in your tail around the remaining 8 sts. Pull tight and tie closed. Pull your tail completely into the body.

Body – Using Go For Faux Thick & Quick – Worked In The Round

12 mm Hook

Ch 2

Row1: Sc 6x into ch 1 (6)

Row2: Inca (12)

Row3: *sc, inc* around (18)

Row4: *sc 2x, inc* around (24)

Row5: *sc 3x, inc* around (30)

Row6: *sc 3, dec* around (24)

Row7: *sc 2x, dec* around (18)

Row8: Sca (18)

Row9: *sc, dec* around (12) Stuff completely

Row10: Dec 4x, then tie off (8)

Legs – Make 4 Using Bernat Blanket Yarn

5.5 mm Hook

Make a magic circle or ch 2

Row1: Sc 8x into MC or into ch 1 (8)

Row2: Inca (16)

Row3: BLO – Sca (16)

Row4: Through both loops, Sca (16)

Row5: *sc 2x, dec* 4x (12)

Slst into the first chain of the last row. Leave an approximate 8
inch tail and tie off.

Attaching the Head to the Body

Attach a strand of Bernat yarn to the body using a slip stitch. Use your 5.5 mm crochet hook to weave the strand around the body and the head. Alternate your weave between the head and the body. Once finished attaching the head, fasten off and pull the last of your yarn deep into the body. Ears – Use your 5.5 mm crochet hook to sew your ears onto the body using Bernat Blanket yarn. This will keep your ears from twisting.

Attaching the Legs

Use the tail on each leg and your 5.5 mm crochet hook to sew the legs onto the body. To do this, alternate between the leg and the body by pulling the tail through the fur, then the leg, then the fur, etc. Once finished, tie off and pull the tail back and forth through the leg to get the tail stuck in the stuffing.

Making the Eyes:

1. Insert yarn as shown above in Step 1. (Go up two rows and over one stitch from the bottom tail, towards the ear.)

2. Insert your hook into the same stitch that your top tail is coming out of. Going straight across that same row towards the ear, exit the hook tip two stitches away as shown in Step 2. Pull the tail all the way through so it is now sticking out of the stitch that your hook was inserted into (shown in photo below)

3. Tie both tails together to where the knot is above the top stitch opening. This will help you hide the knot after you tuck in the tails. (See second photo above.

4. Tuck in the tails by inserting your hook into the back of the head. Pull both tails into the head so they get stuck in the stuffing. Repeat on the other side.
