We have our newest Yarn Punk on the blog today – Please Welcome Prescilla from Yarn Circus! When you head over to her socials, the first thing you’ll notice are her creative and vibrant amigurumi! And for today’s post, the theme is no different – Down below, we have the pleasure of being shown step by step on how to create our very Ice Cream Octopus Amigurumi! I usually enjoy my octopus in other ways, but as a desert? Sign me up! Be sure to show Yarn Circus some love on her side of the internet and enjoy the pattern that she has for us today!
Let’s Say Hi to Prescilla!
“Hiya! I’m Prescilla, the creative behind Yarn Circus. My primary focus is to craft fun, sweet art out of yarn. I began creating amigurumi as a freshman in high school and have been selling my work ever since. Yarn Circus represents the jumble of things you can find here: under the Circus Tent. I love to make animals and fan art—I have been a huge anime & pop culture nerd since I was a kid. But found here are also silly creations based off of my own sketches: Catfish, Donut Cats, Cupcake Turtles.. Even Octoscoops!
In 2019, I started putting out a few free patterns to give back to the community that has supported me over the years. As time goes on, I hope to continue sharing my love for cute plush with them and ya’ll. I honestly love what I do and to be able to share that with others is so fulfilling! It’s my aim to make the world a little happier – a stitch at a time.
P.S, I wanted to recommend some of my favorite Music Artists to you: Tame Impala, Fleet Foxes, Queen’s of the Stone Age, The Maria’s, & Beach House”

Shorthand Terms:
SLPST = Slip Stitch
SC = Single Crochet
INC = Increase
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
DEC = Decrease
FO = Finish Off
Example: SC x 2, INC = Single Crochet in the next 2 Stitches, Increase in the next.
Gauge:
Gauge isn’t important to this project!
Let’s Begin!
Octo-Scoop:
Round 1: Make a Magic Circle, SC x6 in ring & Pull to close. (6)
Round 2: INC x 6 (12)
Round 3: SC, INC around (18)
Round 4: SC x 2, INC around (24)
Round 5-9: SC x 24 (24)
Place eyes between Rows 8 & 9 with 4 stitches in between
Round 10: In Back Loops ONLY, SC x 2, DEC (18)
Round 10: In Back Loops ONLY, SC x 2, DEC (18)
Round 11: SC, DEC (12)
Stuff your scoop!
Round 12: DEC in each stitch around (6)
F.O, Weave in Ends.
Octo-”tentacles”:
You will be making Scallops with the Front Loops leftover from Round 10.
On the backside, Slip Stitch in the front loop in of the Octopus (from round 10).
In the same stitch: SC, CH1, HDC, CH1, DC, SLPST in next stitch, skip the stitch after.
You will repeat this all the way around, and slip stitch to join at the end.
Weave in ends & now you have and your scoop is finished!
Whippie:
Chain 31, or as many as you want. More Chains = Bigger whip, Less Chains = Smaller Whip
In next stitch: SC, CH1, HDC, CH1, DC, skip next stitch, slip stich, skip next stitch.
Repeat this until you get to the end. If there are 1-2 stitches leftover at the end, SC those stitches. FO, leaving long tails for sewing.
As you can see, it already wants to curl on itself. As you assemble, your Whippie will look something like this (on top of the scoop)
Assembly
Attach Whippie to the top of the Octo-Scoop in a circular pattern. It will pretty much curl on itself but you can manipulate it to be big or small.
From here… You’re done! It is up to you now to customize and top your new ice cream scoop! You can add sprinkles using yarn, or I used Polymer Clay Sprinkles (pictured). You can also add a cute crocheted/3D Fruit as a topping! The choices are limitless.
