We have our newest Yarn Punk here today and she has such a fun pattern to share with everyone today! Have you ever heard of a Tapir before? I have seen them but didn’t know what they were called.. Not until today thanks to Carrie From Ohana Crafts! Today, shes showing us how to create this chibi Tapir! We don’t see these in North America so here’s your chance to include one into your home – and it’s so easy and simple! Down below, meet Carrie and be sure to check out her side of the internet. She is so supportive of all other artists and a true pleasure to have in the yarn Punk community!

Hi Carrie!

“Hi, hello! My name is Carrie and I’ve been crocheting amigurumi for about 9 years. I’m a full time Amigurumi designer / maker / vendor. I used to sell my crochet patterns but I stopped and only focus on amigurumi dolls making to attend comic cons and markets.

I’ve been working my way back to the pattern market these couple years so you will find some of my new crochet patterns in my Etsy and Ravelry now. My designs are mostly the chibi cute kawaii version of everything that inspired me, especially from video games, comic books and anime. I have been sharing free patterns for my projects and making YouTube free tutorials over that last year and a half to provide lots of tips and tricks that I’ve picked up myself.

This baby Malayan Tapir was on my to-crochet list long enough, its name is Morris , I’m glad I finally get to make it as a proud Yarn Punk! My favorite music playlist is mostly the lofi or Kpop .

I’m mostly active on Instagram where I share my daily and amigurumi projects. Feel free to meet me there! I hope you enjoy this free crochet pattern!”

Ears (in dark blue)

Start a magic ring with : 2sc, ch1, hdc , ch1, hdc, ch1 , 2sc, pull tight. Leave a tail to sew.

Sewing Tips:

  1. Start with the Nose. Find your center, sew the noes to body between R6-7 , you can curve the nose to the angle you saw in the picture and sew the sides to attach to body to form the curve shape you like.

  1. Sew the hands to both sides of body where you first changed the color. After you sew the hands to body, use the rest tail to sew the upper and lower sides of the arm to attach to body to secure. So your hands will look like they are holding the body.

(insert Side 1 picture)

  1. Sew the legs to the both sides of body where you change color the second time, also sew the upper and lower legs to attach to the body to secure.

(insert Side 2 Picture )

  1. Sew the ears to top of the head, about 3-4 sts aprt.

sew a white line underneath both eyes to create that cute expression.

All done!
